Results are in!

No, I do NOT have gestational diabetes. Yipee!
I'm very relieved and excited about this news. Just got off the phone with the doctor's office and the levels looked good for all four of the results.
I think maybe I need to celebrate. Perhaps I should get some ice cream this week at the store! I'm thinking Mint-Chip.

Do I have GD?

And no, GD is not an STD.
I'm referring to Gestational Diabetes.
And yes, I may have it. Awaiting the test results from yesterdays more extensive bloodwork. So I'm praying for a negative result on Monday.

What silver lining can you find with a head cold while you are pregnant and can't really take anything for relief? And when I say head cold, I mean a full-blown 2-week-er, complete with jaw pain and sinus pressure that screams inside your head when you try to blow your nose every five minutes because your brain is drowning in snot.

I've found my silver lining:
First of all, the nasty Glucola they make you drink in your third trimester to check for gestational diabetes... I couldn't taste it!!!!
Secondly, my husband, who let me go to bed on Saturday night at 6pm with the help of some Benadryl so I could get some rest after a long day of running around.
And thirdly, not having as much of an appetite, which is hopefully going to prove to be a blessing when I weigh-in tomorrow at my next OB appointment.

Godspeed, little man

Julie sent me this bedtime lullabye for little boys. Love it.

And here you can hear it sung by the Dixie Chicks.

(And I think baby girl loves it too, as she was kicking a bunch while I played it.)

Stop! Potty Time.

Some of you may be wondering what ever happened to our efforts to potty-train our two, nearly three year old. We haven't completely given up. It's just that with these past few months, it's taken a back seat to other things. Like, you know, bedrest.

But we're back in the saddle again I think. Dylan has seemed more interested in using the potty in the past week or so, and even MORE so this weekend. So last night we asked him what VERY special place would he like to go when he "uses the potty all the time and doesn't wear diapers anymore" -
We offered Disneyland. He declined. He thought a second and said, "The Zoo. With ALL the animals. The fighting hippos. Oh, and Football Nandma!"
So there you have the plan. Fighting hippos AND his Grandma. Now there's a treat!

On that note, one major success was just now after waking up from his nap. I hear a call for mommy from down the hall in his room and a request to use the potty. Not his potty, but "mommy and daddy's big potty." I brought him into our bathroom and sat him down. He peed. I cheered. Pretty loudly too.
I'm sure the neighbors wonder what sports event we've been watching with all the cheering going on today.

Overheard at our dinner table:

Ryan: Hey, I thought of what we could do to celebrate your 30th birthday.

Briana: What?

Ryan: The Getty Museum. And not only is it supposed to be really neat, but it's FREE, which fits into our budget.

Briana: But how does that fit into being on bedrest? When would we go?

Ryan: Well, I figured we could just get you a wheelchair and I'd push you around.

Briana: Wait. I'm turning 30. How does sitting in a wheelchair while celebrating my birthday this year not make me feel old?

Update: 26 weeks

Another OB appointment.

Still on bedrest (and probably will be for the rest of the pregnancy in general or at least until we get to the 'safer weeks'), but at least it's modified so I can go outside as long as I stay off my feet and rest as much as possible. Still no walks or exercise. Still no trips to the grocery store. Still no trips to the zoo or Huntington Gardens with Dylan, but I'm not stuck in bed, so I'm going to be thankful for that. And being able to sit and watch him play at the park while someone else helps chase after him is better than sitting at home alone getting depressed.

And I'm SUPER thankful for all my friends' support. I can't believe how quickly they responded with offers to help us each week with meals, helping with Dylan, and just letting me cry on their shoulders when I have felt discouraged about this situation. And while I have a hard time asking and taking help from our friends, who I know are already busy themselves with work and families and schedules, I'm trying to be graceful about accepting their help it as it's offered.

One thing that I've realized (FINALLY) on a personal level is that this is "only temporary" and while it feels like a huge burden on everyone around me, it's much less of a burden than we'd all be if I had the baby early and we were stuck in a NICU for the next few months.

So stay in there, little girl. I'll do my part. Don't come out yet!

Being on bedrest has forced me to reach out for help. Today I decided to place an online order for our groceries. I begged Ryan to let me go to the store for a few quick things after I dropped off Dylan at preschool this morning, but I realized I had more to get once I got home. So was my answer. And with a coupon code for free delivery, I was like a kid in a candy store. Wait. Maybe just a grocery store. But that's still exciting when you aren't supposed to go anywhere still except the bathroom.

Pair of new eyes!

Ryan's Vision Before: 20/400

And Post-op Day One: 20/20 and 20/25

It's amazing. Ryan hasn't been in any pain really and he's the perfect patient. Makes me feel like I was a total wuss when I had it done two years ago. The doctor said "perfect" when he looked at his eyes right after the procedure and his nurse commented that he was a "poster candidate and patient." I'm so proud of him and thankful for the awesome results. Congratulations, Ryan. Enjoy those your new vision!!!
